PEOPLE IDENTIFYING AS ABORIGINAL [PIA] - VERY DISTINCT FROM RACIAL OR ETHINCALLY ABORIGIANL

These photos have been extracted from publicly available website of People that Identify as Aboriginal [PIA].  The PIA would not appear to be Aboriginal by race or ethnicity - they do not appear to live an Aboriginal cultural lifestyle but the PIA [as defined in an elasticated definition within legislation] can Identify, just like any person of any religion, union or cult.

A Race refers to the concept of dividing people into groups on the basis of various sets of physical characteristics.

Ethnicity on the other hand describes the culture of people in a given geographic region including language, heritage, religion and customs.

Culture is defined as the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.  The pre-contact tribal Aboriginal culture is very distinct from European or Western culture that is now prevalent across Australia

The State and Federal Government has introduced legislation to define an "Aboriginal" which is very distinct from the definitions of either a race nor an ethnicity
